Texas 3A/4A/5A Regional Semi Finals

After last night's action there are only two teams standing in each Region, and in each classification left fighting for a trip next weekend to The Drum and the Texas State Championships in Austin, TX. As soon as the 4A doubleheader ended I hoped in my rental car and headed to El Paso for my Interstate Challenge Showcase.  As soon as I ate breakfast, I posted this recap.  Big Regional Final games today! 3A ...

The honors are beginning to flow in for the Texas D1 Ambassadors.  The latest Newcomer of the Year in their district is 2015 PG Demarius Cress of Killeen High. He may be underized at the moment at 5'8" but he's got DEEP range on his shot and knows how to run a team. Cress started every game as a freshman and averaged 7.9 ppg.  He's the latest in a long history of D1 prospects from Killeen High including Mar ...

District 15-5A is made up of traditional powers Austin Westlake, Austin Bowie, Del Valle, Austin Akins and Austin Anderson and Austin High.  Along with 16-5A it is typically the stronghold of D1 talent in the Austin 5A classification.  Every year there are Division One players out of this area and Austin Westlake has had more than it's share of great athletes in football (Drew Brees, Nick Foles) and in bask ...

Texas High School Playoff Predictions: Regional Semis/Finals

Immediately following the Regional Semi Final games tomorrow evening in San Antonio I'm hopping in my car rental and making an overnight beeline for El Paso, TX where I'll be running an Interstate Showcase there on Sunday.  So, I will be unable to update the site before the Regional Finals.  Hence, I'm going to pick my Regional Finalists here as well. Before I do that though, let's check my Report Card from ...

Mississippi D1 Ambassador Players Instrumental in State

About 3 years ago the Texas D1 Ambassadors played a team from Mississippi in the Championship of the Rivals.com Tournament in Birmingham, Alabama. We had a great group with 11 future Division One players but they gave us all we could handle before we eventually beat them in a close game.  I was impressed with the heart these kids from MS showed as well as their off the charts athleticism. El Paso Montwood’s Tony Harper Honored

Anybody who's watched El Paso's Montwood HS play knows they are impeccably drilled, and coached down to the most minute detail. The reason:  Coach Tony Harper who has accumulated 881 wins as a high school coach.  I had the pleasure of meeting Coach Harper in December of 2010 at the Austin Westlake Holiday Classic. I subsequently had the same opportunity this past Christmas, once again in Austin. Below is a ...

Texas UIL Quarter Final Results

There's no surprise that there are surprises in the playoffs.  Texas has too much talent for anyone to rest on their laurels for a game, or even a quarter. Hats off to 3A Waco LaVega, 2A Jarrell and 1A Mumford for being 30 something and zero this year!  Not only is each respective team a talented bunch, but they are FOCUSED too.  None has had a bad game (yet)and that's why there's almost 100 wins between th ...

San Antonio Warren 64 Converse Judson 61 (OT)

It was fitting that there was only one high school playoff game being played tonight.  All eyes were on the Warren-Judson matchup and the contrast in styles.  This was a high school game for the ages, that's for sure.  For the 3rd time in the last 4 games, 2013 G Marcus Keene of Warren had the game right here he wanted it....with the ball in his hands.  And for the 3rd time in a row he delivered with a buzz ...

Texas High School Playoff Predictions: Regional Quarter Finals

We're about to enter the 3rd Round (Regional Quarter Finals) of the Texas High School Playoffs.  This is where underdog "Rudy" storylines start dancing in the heads of unlikely winners of their previous two games.  Perhaps it was an easy draw, or they played the giant killer by knocking off a District Champion.  Most of these stories will come to an end on Tuesday but in a field so large and with so much ta ...
