The last four April’s running the D1 Nation has descended en masse to the Mile High Classic AAU Tournament held in the Denver suburbs. In the recruiting game it’s important to choose exposure events wisely and make sure that your players are positioned in front of different geographic cross sections of coaches. The D1 Ambassadors and the schools in and around Colorado have struck gold with this relationship. Yesterday, the latest chapter has been written as 2013 W 6’5″ (195 lb) Sled Allen of Austin St. Michael’s has committed to the Colorado Buffaloes and Coach Tad Boyle.
We are proud of Sled and the growth he’s shown as a player and a person during the last few years as a member of the Texas D1 Ambassadors. He’s a late bloomer; a tough, physical kid whose skill set is rapidly developing. He’s now capable of coming off the curl, taking you off the bounce and flushing in traffic. His outside shooting touch continues to improve as well so that’s he’s now a legitimate threat from outside.
While at Austin St. Michael’s under Coach Mackey Smith, Allen did everything asked of him and emerged as a true senior leader. Allen played this spring for the Texas D1 Ambassadors-Roberson . His assorted accomplishments from this past high school season are listed below.
Averaged double digit scoring all year.
All tournament player in the Navarro tournament
All tournament player in the Salado tournament
MVP of his TAPPS 5A high school varsity basketball team
TAPPS 5A All District first team
TAPPS 5A All State Honorable mention
Allen turned down scholarship opportunities to be a preferred walk on with the Buffs. His best basketball is ahead because of his strong work ethic. Don’t be shocked if he does nice things for my friend Tad Boyle. Boyle has tapped the Central Texas area within the D1 Ambassadors program, snagging Paul Garnica (San Antonio Lee), Andre Roberson (Converese Judson), George King (San Antonio Brennan) and now for Allen who plays 90 minutes north of San Antonio in Austin, TX.
The D1 Ambassadors have been good to the State of Colorado as in addition to the players who have joined the Buffs, we’ve also sent Dylan Elias (San Antonio Taft/Northern Colorado), Royce o’Neale (Killeen Harker Heights/Denver University), J.J. Avila (McAllen/Colorado State), D.J. Blackmon (Albuquerque/Fort Lewis State), Will Morse (Austin Westlake/Fort Lewis State) and Ras Bach (Austin Anderson/Fort Lewis State) up to the Rockies for their basketball careers.
Congratulations to the Allen Family. Sled is a wonderful young man and is destined to make a difference in the world!-Coach Ivany
