Cen Tex Round Up: Tuesday, February 14th

Last night marked the end of the Texas UIL Regular Season.  Now, some 30 plus games later half of the State’s seniors now find themselves having played their last game.  There will be a relatively small number who will go on to college but for other’s it will be a future without basketball or play in Wednesday night men’s leagues.  The State Championships culminate in Austin, TX on Saturday, March 11th.  If you’re one of the lucky families who have earned a playoff berth then savor if for the next few days until the post season begins.

Soph Brian Long led the Roos to their 4th straight win.  Coach Jason Fossett’s youngsters have grabbed a playoff spot and hope to get a win this post season.  Last year’s 31-3 squad led by TaShawn Thomas (Houston) were upset by Arlington Seguin in the first round.  Long had 20 points and senior Tevin Bartney added 14 points and 11 rebounds for Killeen.

Senior Chris Runnels had 25 points to lead the Grey Wolves, clinching 3rd place and a playoff berth.  Senior G J. Mychal Reese fginished his storied school boy career with 16 points and now looks to get completely healthy and head to Texas A&M.

Harker Heights 65  Belton 44

Senior Thomas Cherry scored 11 points as Heights emptied their bench and cruised into the playoffs with a 2nd place seed.

A&M Consolidated  65  Killeen Ellison 41

Desptie the loss, Ellison slipped in to 4th place and their 18th straight playoff berth. However, the night belonged to Consolidated as they got 22 points, 10 rebounds and several dunks from Texas A&M bound guard 6’6″ Alex Caruso.  The Tigers finished 29-4 and won their first district title since 1994.
