Stephen F Austin 73 UTSA 64 (Women’s)
NACOGDOCHES — Sophomore Judy Jones recorded her second consecutive double-double with a season-high 19 points and 11 rebounds, but it was not enough and Stephen F. Austin snapped a three-game losing streak against the Roadrunners with a 73-64 victory on Saturday at Johnson Coliseum.
Freshman Kamra King added a career-high 18 points off the bench for the Roadrunners (7-16, 3-7 SLC), who dropped their fifth consecutive contest.
A big shout out to my daughter in law, redshirt sophomore Judy Jones of Monroe, LA. The ’9″ G with the mega-bunnies (Lousiana’s State High Jump and 4 time State 400 meter champion) had a great frosh campaign for UTSA, then took a medical redshirt last year while recovering from having my grandson, Julian. This season she never complained as the coaching staff chose to move her to the wing/post to help the team. Learning a new position she found herself out of the flow and in foul trouble regularly.
The last two games the pride of Monroe’s Wossman H.S. has been moved back to her natural lead guard position and has flourished with back to back double doubles (15 points, 17 rebounds followed up by 19 points and 11 boards). Attending summer school regularly she is well ahead of schedule to graduate and should be in line to complete her Master’s Degree before her scholarship expires. That’s what it’s all about!
