San Antonio Northside Double Header
San Antonio Warren 82 San Antonio Brandeis 76 (OT)
“Big time players make big time shots”, said my friend Curtis McGlown late in the game between Northside powers Brandeis and Warren. This was a game that Brandeis controlled for the most part as they got to the rim rather easily with Warren’s difference maker Taurean Prince Waller sitting on the bench where he was saddled with 4 fouls.
Brandeis’ Jeremy Martinez (28) and Justin Graham (24) kept the Broncos out front and looking like they would put this one away with a 6 point lead late in the game. That’s when 2013 G Marcus “Cool Daddy” Keene took over. He hit big shots and big free throws to have Warren within 3 with 6 seconds to go. With the ball in his hands Keene raced the length of the court and pulled up for a contested three point play. Swish! We have overtime.
Taurean Prince Waller (9) scored the first bucket of OT for Warren but then promptly fouled out. Warren won going away as Keene took over and knocked down 4 straight free throws to close out the extra period, finishing with a team leading 19 points. Warren had balanced scoring as 2012 G Jordan Corona (17), 2012 G Jerell Ellis (16) and Paris Collins (14) all chipped in. Collins gave quality minutes in lieu of Prince Waller being on the court. Should be a heck of a game when Warren faces Churchill in the 2nd round of the playoffs.
San Antonio Clark 62 San Antonio Taft 40
With Stephen F. Austin Coach Danny Kaspar in the house, 2012 G Adam Paerez of Clark dominated and had 32 points as Clark tamed Taft in game II of the doubleheader. D1 schools need to wake up and stop sleeping on Perez who also sports an 1800 plus SAT score. Patriot League and NEC Conference schools take note of this unsigned gem!
