Feature Games: Harker Heights-Killeen Ellison & Round Rock-Georgetown
I was all over the map today. Had a great day in Killeen, TX meeting with the movers and shakers of the basketball world up there. There is no place in Texas with as much talent per capita than the Killeen area the is adjacent to the world’s largest military installation, Fort Hood. Then I headed over to Ellison HS to catch their varsity contest.
Harker Heights 62 Killeen Ellison 44
Heights came to Ellison’s house and kicked the door in. This one was never in doubt from the first minute. Heights won every stanza. 2013 G Ojai Black led all scorers with 15 points but the home team showed little other emotion or productivity. This was Heights’ night and it’s going to be a good year too. I like their pieces. They’ve got depth, senior leadership, youngsters who are major contributors and a loaded JV group as well.
2012 G C.J. Rodqiguez a tough guard who can defend to led the Knights with 14 points and 11 rebounds. I hadn’t seen 2012 F Trumell McCrimmon since the end of the summer and I was pleasantly surprised. An athletic 6’7″ McCrimmon has worked on his body , added some beef and showed much improved footwork and confidence. He had 3 dunks, tallying 13 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Georgia State is all over him and other D1′s need to take notice as well.
Round Rock 55 Georgetown 46
After the 5:30 pm start in Killeen I got on my horse and arrived in Georgetown at half time with Round Rock holding a 25-24 half time lead. The third quarter was Georgetown’s undoing as shots didn’t fall and 2013 6’11″ Leonard Allen altered and blocked almost every possession. He finished with a near triple double with 11 points, rebounds and blocked shots. He’s high major.
2012 G Michael Hardge, the City’s leading scorer went a little cold in the second half and still ended up with 18 points to lead all scorers.
