Central Texas Round Up: Friday
Austin Westlake 67 Austin Bowie 60
In a game that really has impact down the line, Westlake went in to the Bulldog Gym and twice overcame late 7 point leads to win in impressive fashion. Bowie’s two top scorers got theirs (2012 Paul Baxter 28) and 2012 Mareik Isom (26) but the Chaps balance and depth was the difference. With 2012 P Drew Wikelius in foul trouble, 2014 P Jordan Seivert stepped up scoring 9 points and adding 14 boards.
2012 R.J. Rowan had 24 points, 2013 G Will Morse 13, Drew Wikelius 10 and 2014 G Chase Carlton added 9. I really like the Chaps team with Wikelius and Seivert in the line up at the same time. It gives them toughness and savvy down low.
Lake Travis 62 Cedar Park 50
After a slow start Lake Travis appears to be hitting it’s stride. They raised their record to 17-5, (5-0 in district) as they cruised over Cedar Park. 2013 G Jordan Manse led the way with 14 points.
Round Rock McNeil 67 Leander 50
2012 G Robert Waters led McNeil with 19 points in the win.
Buda Hayes 75 Smithson Valley 64
2014 G A.C. Reid continues to impress as he scored 23 for Smithson Valley.
Pflugerville 68 Round Rock Stony Point 44
2013 G T.J. Williams has asserted his leadership and the Panthers are settling into their roles having lost only one district game (to RR McNeil). The nifty PG had 23 in the win.
Austin LBJ 76 Austin Travis 58
2014 G Jahlil Tutein had 21 to lead Coach Freddie Roland’s Purple Machine to it’s 6-0 District record.
Austin High 63 Austin Anderson 60
2013 F Patrick Strake scored 26 in the win for the Maroons. 2013 G John Gramlich had 25 in the loss for the Trojans. I really like Anderson’s youngsters but they have got to be cautious. Another district loss in a row and the playoffs become less likely. This is a competitive district
Del Valle 74 Austin Akins 64
2012 G Terrelle Owens had 25 in the win. The Cardinal are gelling quickly and proving to be one of Austin’s surprise squads.
Killeen 66 Stephenville 36
The yong Roos are beginning to grow up as 2014 G Brian Long (16) and 2014 Melvin Anthony (10) led them to their first district win.
A&M Consolidated 62 Killeen Ellison 53
2013 P Jimmie Gilbert pounde Ellison inside to notch a game high 21 points and McDonald’s All American Game nominee showed his all around game and his athletic ability as the Tigers won a big one on the road.
Harker Heights 71 Belton 34
Seniors Thomas Cherry (16) and C.J. Rodriguez (12) led the Knights to the lopsided win.
