Thrilla In The Villa

After watching McNeil dominate Pflugerville a couple of weeks ago I was torn as to what game I would attend tonight.  I decided on the rematch and headed over to Pflugerville's gym.  Ali-Frazier II, or a palooka getting his nose bloodied?   McNeil jumped out to a 9-0 lead and it looked like they were going to take Pflugerville to the woodshed.  For three minutes I'm kicking myself for being at this game. State’s Undefeated Teams Reside In Cen Tex

There are only three undefeated basketball teams in all of Texas; Waco La Vega (3A), Jarrell (2A) and Mumford (1A).  The Bryan Eagle featured Mumford this morning.  They are led by Texas D1 Ambassadors shooting guard 2014 Aubrie King and 2015 W LaKendrick Hyson. Not too often that the small schools get any ink, so enjoy! By LARRY BOWEN larry.bowen@theeagle.com A rare goose egg beams from the loss column of ...

[caption id="attachment_9279" align="aligncenter" width="279" caption="2012 Paul Baxter"][/caption] It's almost Groundhog Day, and believe it or not we are almost in the stretch run of the 2011-2012 season. Teams now have 5-6 games left in the regular season.  Round Rock McNeil lost last week  to rival Round Rock BUT they are still 27-2 at this point in the season and will hold down my top spot in Austin ar ...

Jake Belford

Staring to heat up… After being sidelined by a couple of injuries, Jake Belford (6’8/Unsigned Senior) from Battleground High (WA) is finally getting into rhythm.  Last week, he had a great all-around performance against Evergreen High School (WA).  He finished the game with 19 points, 10 rebounds, and 5 assists. He is a tough guy to cover due to his athleticism and great shooting touch.  He is definitely a ...

D1 Nation: NCAA Alumni Updates

One of the most enjoyable things about being the standard bearer for publicity in the Killeen-Austin-San Antonio area is seeing the kids we've touched with the D1 Ambassadors now manifest their talents in the classroom and on the court at the college level.  It takes about 4 hours for me to comb through every NCAA game on a weekly basis to compile all of our alumni's performances of the week.  It's a labor ...

San Antonio Antonian 67 San Antonio Central Catholic 66 (OT)

San Antonio Antonian 67   San Antonio Central Catholic  66 It took overtime to decide it this time and when the smoke cleared it was a different result than the first meeting.  It took four Apaches in double figures including 2013 G Chris Molina's 21 points and another 16 from 2013 G Sterling Holmes to finally hang the "L" on Central Catholic. Jorden Kite (far left) looks on as older brother Jerred (far rig ...

Friday, January 27th: San Antonio Round Up

San Antonio Stevens 58  San Antonio Clark 57 Stevens has a one-two scoring punch potentially as good as anyone in San Antonio.  Problem os they rarely get someone else to step up and contribute on the scoreboard.  However when 2012 Southern Methodist commit, G 6'5" Uche Ofoegbu (24) and 2012 W 6'5" Marcus Roper (20) are on, they are on!  They beat a tough Clark team which was led by 2012 G Adam Perez who sc ...

Friday, January 27th: Austin Round Up

Austin Westlake 55   Austin High 54 Austin High's 2013 F Patrick Strake led all scorer's with 20 but the Westlake Chaps did a great jov of shutting down the Maroon's second and third scoring options.  The result was an exciting one point road win in one of Austin's few really exciting basketball environments in front of a raucous, packed house.  With students almost spilling onto the floor and the bands pla ...

Barlow High vs. Centennial High

Barlow vs. Centennial This was definitely a great game to watch this week.  At one point in the game, Barlow (Oregon) was up by 20 points until Centennial (Oregon) went with a full court press which helped them cut the lead into single digits.  Barlow was able to defeat Centennial with a final score of 76-72.  Barlow got a great effort from Cody Powers (6’4/Class of 2013) who scored 22 points.  Centennial’s ...

Feature Games: Harker Heights-Killeen Ellison & Round Rock-Georgetown

I was all over the map today.  Had a great day in Killeen, TX meeting with the movers and shakers of the basketball world up there.  There is no place in Texas with as much talent per capita than the Killeen area the is adjacent to the world's largest military installation, Fort Hood. Then I headed over to Ellison HS to catch their varsity contest. Harker Heights 62  Killeen Ellison 44 Heights came to Ellis ...
