Desert Mountain Stops Horizon

Desert Mountain 67  Horizon  59
The D1 Nation was in the house for this one.  From the first few minutes, home team Desert Mountain seized control building their lead to double digits and led at halftime, 32-16.   This is my third time seeing DM.  They are well coached and have guys that have a pretty good understanding of their roles.  They are susceptible to pressure though, but a collection of quality shooters led by dead eye 2012 W Austin Cooke and 2013 W Diego Magana makes them a dangerous opponent.

At 6’5″ Magana is a tough catch and shoot matchup.  He had 22 points to lead all scorers in the game and when Horizon made their run he hit a couple of key shots to end it.  He intrigues me, as he look as if he’ll grow a little more.  needs to add strength and to be able to put the ball on the floor with confidence to increase his stock for next level consideration.

Pinnacle 73  Deer Valley  59
2013 G Drew Bender regained his scoring touch as he dropped 23 in the win.  He had support from 2014 W Dorian Pickens, an athletic player who has been offered by Arizona State who added 22.

Chandler Basha 69 (AZ) Las Vegas Centennial (NV)  67
Chandler Basha used a furious 4th quarter comeback to win the Southwest Rotary Classic Tournament in Yuma, AZ over las Vegas Centennial (NV) 69-67.  2013 F Torren Jones a 6’7″ prospect led the way with 26 points, while 2013 G Jaron Hopkins added 16 in the win.
