All American Prodigy Camp- Class of 2012 Recap
The Class of 2012 had a couple of pleasant surprises. In addition to known commodities, Jake Belford and Jordan Schriber there was hard nosed Pavel Jiranek a 6’2″ G from Veronia (WA) by way of the Czech Republic. (More to follow on them in a later recap.)
Not sure I can put the D1 stamp on any of these guys, however they are all right on the cusp of being very good D2 guys. With the right work ethic and productivity during their senior year and on the circuit in the spring of 2012 who knows, no reason why several of them couldn’t make the jump across to D1 signees.
2012 G 6’0″ Kevin Marshall Wilsonville (OR)
Marshall showed the ability to run a team, had above average court vision and played with a lot of intensity for the entire camp.
2012 F 6’6″ Nate Trotter Adna (WA)
Trotter was surprisingly good shotblocker, showing sneaky athleticism. He had an effective midrange jumper and hit several turnaround shots against taller defenders while maintaining good body control.
2012 W 6’6″ Stuart Bartoldus Newport (OR)
Bartoldus has it down pat on the offensive end of the court. He’s a good passer, proving effective out of the high post. A face up player, he can hit consistently from anywhere on the floor, including from beyond the arc.
2012 G 6’1″ Grant McNeil Wilsonville (OR)
McNeil is hardnosed. He was diving on the floor for loose balls, got into his man’s shirt on the defensive end and then showed a nice game at the other end by hitting open team mates, knocking down his own shot and then finishing at the goal (once with a sweet reverse).
2012 F 6’7″ Orlando Vance Portland Parkrose (OR)
Vance has a body like a tight end. Needs to shed some of his baby fat in the weight room, but he will be a hoss. He was physical, had a high motor, showed good first and second effort when boarding, showcased a nifty baby hook and even hit a couple of triples. D1′s should definitely track him.
2012 F 6’4″ Shai Gray Tigard (OR)
Quite simply, whatever team Gray plays on he will make better. He’s undersized to be sure but his intensity made him my pick as Mr. Hustle of the camp. He went strong to the hole, was physical, could hit the three and got to the free throw line. He never complained, just picked himself up and went to work.
