All American Prodigy Camp Oregon/Washington Recap #1
At Max Ivany’s inaugural All American Prodigy Camp held in Longview, Washington this past weekend he numbers weren’t huge, but there wasn’t a player in the gym who didn’t have the tools to play college basketball on some level. I was particularly impressed by the fact that as a group their academics were superior and their desire to SOAK UP the instruction was obvious. The schools and families in Washington and Oregon must be doing a pretty good job!
The staff had the kids playing at a breakneck pace, led by Lower Columbia College’s Jim Roffler. It was immediately apparent as to why Coach Roffler had won over 400 games at the college level as his intensity and knowledge were on display from the opening whistle. If you’re a player, you want to play for this guy! It was also a pleasure working with Head Coach Trevor Person at Battle Ground HS (WA) who also runs the Dan Dickau Basketball Academy in Portland, OR.
The majority of the campers were 2012 and 2013 so let’s start with the youngsters who came to compete with the older players and caught my eye.
2015 G 5’6″ Dezmond Stoudamire Portland Centennial (OR)
This name should be familiar to hoops fans everywhere, but especially in the Pacific Northwest. The nephew of former NBA star and Arizona hooper, Damon Stoudamire will undoubtedly hear the “too small” tag but I’m not willing to bet against him. Stoudamire showed a scorer’s mentality and is already “money” from behind the line. Was not afraid to try and penetrate either. He’s definitely one to watch in 2015
2015 G 6’3″ Parker Joncus Gresham Barlow (OR)
Joncus doesn’t look the part of a frosh. He’s 6’3″. I was particularly impressed with his court vision and abiliy to execute the pick and roll with his bigs, something many senior guards have trouble doing.
2014 G 5’7″ Trent Warren Portland Central Catholic (OR)
Undersized at the moment, Warren is one of those skill guys that when he grows into his body will be a difference maker. He showed he was a hustler, a shooter and a passer. Just what you want in a lead guard prospect.
